外交部規畫在海牙國際仲裁法庭對南海仲裁案做出結論前，舉辦守護國土行動，外傳下周可能邀外媒登島。
總統馬英九在貝里斯與媒體茶敘時說，希望官員、媒體登上太平島，變成常態性的工作；但必須考量天候，靠近時才知道能否順利成行，還在規畫中。
外交部長林永樂說，從上次馬總統登臨太平島後，外交部已進行後續規畫，但媒體登島時間還不明確；將來還是希望安排媒體在「適當時候」到太平島參訪，主要讓大家多了解那邊實際的狀況，但目前還在規畫階段。
馬總統說，這次出訪，有國際媒體詢問他太平島議題，他向國際媒體說明南海和平倡議、路徑圖，以及他曾登太平島，說明太平島是「島」不是「岩礁」等主張。
馬總統表示，國際仲裁法庭二月已去函菲律賓、中國大陸，請他們對我方登上太平島發表意見。國際仲裁法庭已經知道這件事，也知道我們說了什麼；但是否在最後的仲裁判斷中會有所說明，我們還不知道。
